Last night I had the absolute honour of speaking to the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee about the global impact of synbio and the tremendous opportunity it presents for the UK. It was so much fun!! What a lovely and receptive audience including MPs and Peers from the House of Lords. Mark Kotter, Sara Holland, Joe Healey and I all had the chance to advocate for synbio (especially for human health!) and highlight the current challenges we see in the UK bioeconomy. We also got to answer quite thoughtful and direct questions on what we would do differently, what policy changes could be beneficial, what kinds of funding and academic TTO support are needed and what it means for the UK to realise its potential as a life science superpower. My two big takeaways are these: -The right people are listening and taking us seriously -There is still a tremendous amount of work to be done - we need more conversations like this to see synbio achieve its promise for people and planet. I also want to acknowledge the incredible work of so many synbio leaders who have succeeded in building such a strong foundation for this industry in the UK. Let's keep this level of advocacy going and work together to build the UK #bioeconomy! #synbio #humanhealthsynbio #entrepreneurship #sustainbility #health #syntheticbiology SynBioBeta bit.bio NanoSyrinx Potter Clarkson
